I grew up in Kenya, in a family-run bookstore, among gorgeous coffee-table books and the accounts of explorers who had gone where few had gone. seeds & shoots is my attempt to carry what I loved most about those worlds, their beauty and their patience, into the season many of us are now in: in transition, building a portfolio life, living across generations. I am Publisher and Editor to start, and will hand both on in time. I read every reflection that comes in.

To the bookstore, always. The smell of it, the hush, and my father at the heart of it: the quintessential storyteller, the hub where the town’s business, politics and judiciary quietly worked themselves out. I keep returning to the sense that a room can hold a whole community, if someone tends it well.
